Narumi Sato (さとうなるみ) is a highly celebrated official illustrator for the Pokémon Trading Card Game who officially debuted in 2021 with the Shining Fates expansion. She earned her role after placing as the runner-up in the inaugural Pokémon Card Game Illustration Grand Prix with a stunning drawing of Eevee.
Her distinct artistic signature relies on traditional transparent watercolor to paint Pokémon in soft, tranquil, and incredibly detailed everyday scenes. Rather than fierce battle poses, she focuses on realistic or relaxed behaviors that highlight the Pokémon’s individual personality.
Most Famous & Popular Cards
Her portfolio spans over 100 TCG and Pocket cards, but a few standout Illustration Rares and Alternate Arts are widely considered masterpieces by collectors:
Beedrill V (Alternate Art) — Astral Radiance: Considered one of her finest pieces, this card showcases a swarm of Beedrill floating gracefully above an expansive, vibrant field of multicolored tulips.
Eevee (Illustration Rare) — Twilight Masquerade: A direct nod to her artistic origins, this incredibly popular card features multiple Eevee interacting playfully in a cozy, sunlit living room setting.
Glaceon V (Alternate Art) — Evolving Skies: This card beautifully frames Glaceon perched on a snow-dusted park bench, capturing a quiet and chilly moment in nature.
Snorlax (Promo) — Sword & Shield: A heartwarming promotional print depicting Snorlax completely relaxed and dozing off in a lush garden alongside some small Pokémon.
Artistic Style & Techniques
By layering transparent watercolors, she achieves a soft, gentle gradient effect that gives her backgrounds a cozy, dreamlike texture.
She frequently uses foreground elements—like cascading flowers, window frames, or foliage to frame the Pokémon and create depth, naturally drawing the eye toward the center of the image.
Unassuming Sceneries: Her favorite subjects are relaxed Pokémon interacting organically with their environments—such as a Diino climbing a tree root or a Fletchinder adjusting its wing.
