Ryan Heshka had this to say about the process of creating Mystic Foam Funnies:

“All the art and text clippings are from my current collection, and I used mostly my foreign editions to pull from. My rule with this zine was to only use existing vintage print material, and nothing pulled from the internet. The work was stripped of color (if any), and photoshopped to create the artwork. I had no story in mind when I assembled this. The story was determined by the found art I had on hand. I just started pulling favourite panels and played around. With future zines I’d like to get more non linear. I hand lettered the dialogue and text, but tried to keep vintage text prominent throughout.

Lastly, on the “Meet the Artiste” page, I left room on the drawing board for an original micro drawing in each zine. This was a fun feature that sort of presented itself. It was so refreshing to create a comic zine quickly and spontaneously.”
